Preclinical Study by Acorda Therapeutics Shows Efficacy of Chondroitinase in Repairing Spinal Cord After Traumatic Injury


HAWTHORNE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 2005--Results of a preclinical study from Acorda Therapeutics showed chondroitinase was effective in improving recovery after spinal cord injury. This advance was reported today in the Journal of Neurotrauma.

In the study, rats were treated with either chondroitinase or a control following a spinal cord injury, and evaluated over 10 weeks of recovery. Animals treated with chondroitinase showed significant improvements in motor function of the limbs and bladder function compared to those treated with a control (ineffective) enzyme.
